Washington, DC - Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, issued the following statement regarding today’s Senate confirmation of Robert Cekada to serve as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) on a 59-39 vote:
“The Fraternal Order of Police extends its congratulations to Mr. Cekada on his confirmation. He has been a trusted partner of the FOP for many, many years, and we look forward to building on this collaborative relationship.
“Mr. Cekada is a dedicated career law enforcement officer with experience dating back to the New York City Police Department in 1992, where he was focused on anti-gang operations, before joining ATF in 2005. During his tenure there, he held critical leadership positions, including Special Agent in Charge of the Miami and Baltimore Field Divisions, as well as Executive Assistant Director for Operations. It is clear he possesses the resolve and passion necessary to head the agency so critical to public safety.
“The FOP is grateful to President Trump for the faith he placed in Mr. Cekada to fulfill this role—the President made an outstanding choice. Today, we are grateful to have such an exceptionally suited individual heading the agency.
“ATF plays a vital role in supporting State and local law enforcement in combating serious crimes, especially as it pertains to firearms. Mr. Cekada has been a critical asset in providing his knowledge and insight to the FOP as our organization continues to promote legislation that ensures safer communities across the nation.”
