As a former police officer and army veteran I practice from a place of experience and understanding. Whereas I have experienced my own trauma and while counseling can be beneficial to everyone not everyone needs counseling or advanced care. Individuals that are struggling with maladaptive symptoms whether from trauma or other related struggles may need advanced care and my job as a clinician is to provide a safe non-judgmental space where each client can focus on healing. My responsibility as a clinician to help the client identify the root core issues causing the maladaptive symptoms and process them. It is also my responsibility to be trained and competent in multiple modalities which can assist the client in healing and utilize the approach that works best for that specific client. Not fit them into a specific modality. I also believe with the right modality and psychoeducation on self-regulation clients can achieve healing from trauma and other related issues and thrive individually, relationally, vocationally, and spiritually.
