Upon graduation from the Philadelphia Police Academy in 1993, Steve was assigned to the 35th District, which at that time was the busiest district in the city. As a uniformed patrol officer, Steve handled virtually every type of assignment a modern patrol officer must encounter. From traffic posts to homicides, from barking dogs to gunshots, there is no telling what waits around the next corner.
After several years in a uniformed patrol assignment, Steve transferred to the Narcotic Bureau. After handling several long-term narcotics investigations and conducting numerous surveillances of street corner drug activity, Steve developed an expertise in urban narcotics enforcement which he keeps current to this day.
While assigned to the Narcotics Bureau, Steve became actively involved with Philadelphia Lodge #5 of the FOP. He served as unit director and helped resolve in-house issues between police officers and supervisors. In his spare time, he also worked as coordinator for all Police Department sports leagues.
In recognition of his service, Steve was approached by FOP President John McNesby and asked to join the FOP’s Executive Board. Over the next 12 years, while assigned to the FOP, Vice President Weiler has served as Marketing Director, Administrator of the FOP’s Survivors’ Fund, coordinator of charitable events, labor arbitration representative, and coordinator of district disciplinary interviews.
Steve is looking forward to contributing his wide-ranging experience to the membership of the National FOP as the newly elected 2nd Vice President.
