In back-to-back missions, Virginia State Police’s Med-Flight 1 rescued two injured hikers in remote locations—one in Madison County on March 31 and another in Rockbridge County on April 1.
Piloted by VSP’s Curt Conlin and staffed by Chesterfield Firefighters Russell Horne and David Webb, the crew flew over 90 nautical miles to reach the scene. Webb was lowered to secure the injured teen before hoisting her to safety. She was then transported to a Central Virginia hospital for treatment.
This mission took place on the 41st anniversary of Med-Flight, a publicly funded operation that never charges for its life-saving services.
