For two decades, a man in Waterbury, Connecticut, lived a nightmare—locked in a small room, starved, and cut off from the outside world. His alleged captor? His own stepmother.
It wasn’t until this February that he finally found a way out, setting a fire with printer paper and hand sanitizer to escape. When officers found him, he was 32 years old, 5'9", and weighed only 70 pounds.
Waterbury police uncovered the horrific conditions he endured—plywood-covered windows, mold, filth, and a life of isolation. Officers, shaken by what they saw, immediately took action—not just to investigate, but to help. They personally collected clothing, books, and supplies to give him a small sense of comfort as he begins his long road to recovery.
This is why law enforcement matters. These officers didn’t just respond to a call—they changed a life.
