Dear Senator Klobuchar,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to thank you for your leadership on S. 1306, the “COPS Reauthorization Act,” and your commitment to getting the legislation through committee and, ultimately, to the floor of the Senate.
The work of the COPS Office is vital to State and local law enforcement agencies and, by extension, to the safety of our communities. The COPS Office administers numerous programs that assist local and State law enforcement agencies. Among them is the COPS Hiring Program (CHP), which provides funding to assist State and local agencies in hiring new officers. This program is critically important to our profession at this time, as law enforcement is grappling with a recruitment and retention crisis. The communities we protect and the agencies that serve them benefit directly from the work of the COPS Office and your leadership and persistence in getting the “COPS Reauthorization Act” through committee is noted and greatly appreciated.
On behalf of the more than 373,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, I thank you again for your leadership and commitment to this legislation. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office if we can be of any assistance to you.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
