Dear Senators McSally and Jones,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for S. 2750, the “Operation Stonegarden Reauthorization Act,” which was favorably reported by the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Your legislation would reauthorize the Operation Stonegarden program, which provides grants to State, local, and tribal law enforcement to improve border security. The bill also authorizes the program to increase coordination between local law enforcement, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The FOP believes that State and local agencies should always cooperate with their Federal counterparts, especially when addressing transnational criminal organizations. The grants provided through Operation Stonegarden will allow local law enforcement to provide critical support against drug and human trafficking operations, which will especially benefit our more rural agencies.
On behalf of the more than 349,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, we look forward to working with you and your staff to get S. 2750 to the Senate floor. Ifl can be of any additional assistance on this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in my Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
National President
