Dear Chairman Durbin and Senator Grassley,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for Lisa O. Monaco to be the next Deputy Attorney General of the United States.
Lisa Monaco has spent her career focusing on national security, counterterrorism, and cybersecurity issues. Currently, Ms. Monaco is a partner at O’Melveny and is the co-chair of O’Melveny’s Data Security and Privacy Group. From 2013 to 2017, she served as Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism for the Obama Administration. Ms. Monaco has worked at the U.S. Department of Justice in several different capacities including serving as Assistant Attorney General for National Security from 2011 to 2013, where she worked to make cyber threats a top priority. From 2006 to 2009, Ms. Monaco worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) helping transform the Bureau after the terrorist attacks on September 11th to focus more on national security.
In her past roles, Ms. Monaco has always communicated regularly with the FOP, allowing for a productive dialogue. During her time at the Justice Department, Ms. Monaco advised on criminal policy, law enforcement, national security, and worked to integrate the intelligence and law enforcement functions of the Department. While we may disagree on some issues, the FOP believes that our past working relationship with Ms. Monaco will allow us to have constructive and positive engagement with her as she takes on the role of Deputy Attorney General, should she be confirmed.
On behalf of the more than 356,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, we are proud to offer our support for Ms. Monaco and thank you for considering our views on this nomination. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
