Dear Senators Cornyn and Klobuchar,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for S. 1170, “Project Safe Childhood.”
This bill updates and expands provisions included in the original “Project Safe Childhood” initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). This program was implemented to combat the growing crisis of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The legislation has four specific objectives: to clarify key definitions and terminology in the original legislation, ensure better collaboration between agencies at every level of government, authorize additional appropriations at $60 million, and lastly, create and fund 20 additional Assistant U.S. Attorneys dedicated to prosecuting these offenders.
This legislation provides law enforcement with the resources and tools we need in our nation’s ongoing fight to stop child sexual exploitation and abuse.
On behalf of the more than 364,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, I thank you both for your leadership on this important issue. If I can provide any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
