Dear Mr. Chairman and Senator Durbin,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for Kashyap P.V. Patel to be the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Mr. Patel began his career of public service as a public defender, first with Miami-Dade County and then later as a Federal public defender. In 2014, he was hired as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice National Security Division. Mr. Patel joined the House Permanent Select Committee in 2017 before joining the first Trump Administration as Senior Director of the Counterterrorism Directorate within the National Security Council. In 2020, he became the principal deputy in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence just before being appointed as the Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Throughout the course of his Federal career, Mr. Patel has become very well acquainted with our national security apparatus and the threats the United States faces abroad. In a broad-ranging conversation we had with him, he made a compelling case about his commitment to public safety and ways in which the FBI can support State and local law enforcement agencies. He has committed to building on the level of trust and collegiality the FBI enjoys with the law enforcement community, and we will all benefit from the enhanced impact the FBI can have on public safety in our communities.
On behalf of the more than 377,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, Kashyap Patel has our full support and confidence to be the next Director of the FBI. If I can provide any additional information in support of Mr. Patel, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
