Dear Representative Carter,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for H.R. 898, the “Recruit and Retain Act.”
Too many law enforcement agencies across the country are struggling to maintain a fully staffed police force and to recruit the best and brightest candidates to serve in their communities. Failure to pass this legislation denies the utilization of these necessary resources in addressing the recruitment and retention crisis plaguing departments today.
This legislation authorizes COPS grantees to use grant funds for the recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers. Following the appropriation of these new funds, meaningful progress can finally be made to address the recruitment and retention crisis threatening every department in the country.
On behalf of the more than 364,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, I thank you for your leadership on this important issue. If I can provide any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
