Dear Representatives Neguse and Issa,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for H.R. 4384, the “Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act.”
Violent crime continues to be a major problem in many areas of the United States, affecting countless families and communities each year. The consequences of such crime can be devastating, not only for victims and their loved ones, but also for the wider community. Law enforcement groups and other stakeholders are always looking for innovative ways to combat crime, especially violent crime, in our streets and in our neighborhoods.
Your legislation would reauthorize critical funding and support for local law enforcement agencies and community organizations that help reduce violent crime and enhance public safety. The program revolves around key components such as community engagement, prevention, and intervention, focused and strategic enforcement, and accountability. In addition, the bill contains a provision entitled the “Ella Grace French and Sergeant Jim Smith Task Force Support Act,” which allows Project Safe Neighborhood funds to support multi-jurisdictional task forces.
On behalf of the more than 367,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, I am proud to offer our support for this legislation. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
