Dear Madam Chairman and Senator Cruz,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for the nomination of Anna M. Gomez to be a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). We recently had what we feel was a very productive conversation with Ms. Gomez and our confidence in her suitability is buttressed by that experience.
Ms. Gomez is a very well qualified nominee with extensive experience and demonstrated leadership in communications policy. She currently serves as a senior advisor for International Information and Communications Policy in the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy at the U.S. Department of State and previously spent 12 years at the FCC in multiple roles. She also spent four years as the Deputy Administrator for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).
There are few individuals as experienced and knowledgeable on communications policy. While she has worked in the private sector, it is her public service in several Federal roles in both the executive and legislative branches which recommends her most strongly for a position on the FCC. Her expertise is widely acknowledged in the telecommunications industry as well.
We believe Ms. Gomez will prove to be an outstanding FCC Commissioner and we urge the Committee and the Senate to support her confirmation. On behalf of the more than 367,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, I thank you for considering our views on this nominee. If I can provide any additional information on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
