You can now create a legacy of honor for American law enforcement by making a contribution to the Fraternal Order of Police Foundation (FOP Foundation) through various planned gift commitments. These contributions can provide benefits for you and your loved ones, while you make a lasting gift in support of America’s law enforcement heroes.
There are a number of ways to contribute to the FOP Foundation:
- Will or living trust. All it takes is directing part of your estate to go to the Memorial Fund in your will or trust. You can designate a fixed dollar amount or donate a percentage of your estate. There is no immediate cost to you, but it’s a decision that will have a lasting impact for those who protect our public safety and the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice in doing so.
- Life insurance policy. Policies that are no longer needed for their original purpose can be valuable gifts and can result in welcome tax savings. You may also name the FOP Foundation as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a policy you already own. Or, purchase a new life insurance policy and designate the FOP Foundation as the beneficiary.
- Retirement funds. After providing for loved ones, you can make a meaningful gift to the FOP Foundation from “what’s left” in your retirement accounts—Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), pension plans, 401(k) accounts and the like.
Because estate planning and tax laws often change, it is always wise to check with your advisors about the best ways to make gifts to the FOP Foundation as part of your estate plans.
