Washington, DC - Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, announced the organization’s “full support” for Vermont Proposition 3, which will enshrine the right of workers to collectively bargain into the State’s Constitution.
“The proposed amendment would recognize the fundamental right of employees—including law enforcement officers—to form and join unions and bargain collectively with their employers over wages, hours, and working conditions,” Yoes said. “This is a historic development! Only five other States have these rights in their constitutions that protect the bargaining rights of all employees.”
The proposition is bipartisan and passed the State Senate unanimously in March of this year, with the State House passing it in May on a 125-15 vote. Vermont’s Proposition 3 will be on the ballot on Election Day, 3 November 2026.
“The men and women in our nation’s police departments put their lives on the line every day to protect our streets and neighborhoods and they have a right to be involved in the decisions which affect them,” Yoes said. “The law enforcement officers in the Green Mountain State are on the verge of having these rights recognized in their constitution. I urge voters in Vermont to vote for Proposition 3 on Election Day.”
