Washington, DC - Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, thanked President Donald J. Trump for convening a law enforcement roundtable with members of the organization’s Executive Board and its Urban Policing Committee, which is comprised of FOP union leaders representing rank-and-file officers serving the nation’s major metropolitan areas.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, our country is once again making public safety a priority,” Yoes said. “We could not ask for a better partner in the Oval Office—President Trump understands the demands placed on the rank-and-file officer and he supports us with more than just words. He fights for us on issues like violence against police and mitigating the negative impact illegal immigration has on the safety of our communities. Through the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ he is working to reduce the Federal income tax on overtime pay.”
The meeting with President Trump, which included U.S. Attorney General Pamela J. Bondi, focused on the challenges faced by police in urban areas in terms of public safety, officer safety, and the crisis our profession faces with respect to recruitment and retention. Other issues included transnational gang activity, qualified immunity, and drug trafficking.
“Our time with President Trump and U.S. Attorney General Bondi was very valuable, and not just because we discussed all the ways the Administration can support State and local law enforcement,” Yoes said. “It also sends a message to the cops on the beat—this President has your back—and a message to the American people—this President knows that public safety must be a priority in our country.
