Washington, DC - WASHINGTON, D.C. – Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, assured the public that their rights and safety would be protected by the men and women in law enforcement on Election Day and every day.
“As an organization, the Fraternal Order of Police can and does support candidates for local, State, and Federal elections. Our members, of course, have the same First Amendment rights to express their views on public and political issues as anyone else,” Yoes said. “But we check our politics at the station house door—on Election Day and every day—because we are sworn to protect your rights as well as your safety.
“Our members do not respond to emergency calls to ‘Democrats’ or ‘Republicans’ that need help or protection,” Yoes explained. “We help our citizens and neighbors when they need it without checking their political affiliations.
“This will be a close election and emotions may run high, but you can depend on the men and women in law enforcement to protect your rights and to keep our streets, neighborhoods, and polling places safe,” Yoes said.
