Washington, DC - Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, thanked Associate U.S. Attorney General Vanita Gupta for her service and partnership during her most recent tenure at the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Vanita returned to the Justice Department at a pivotal time for law enforcement and policing in our country. The FOP was working to strengthen our bonds with the communities we serve at a time when our nation was deeply divided. We needed a partner and, however unlikely it may have seemed at first, Vanita Gupta became that partner.
“Our criminal justice system—and our country—is stronger when we have a shared mission: keeping our officers and the public safe. Achieving these goals requires dedicated people who care deeply and equally about those serving in and those served by law enforcement. Vanita Gupta brought people together and had a history of engaging with and listening to input from law enforcement, and the FOP in particular. She was focused on our shared mission, which is how and why she earned the trust and respect of the FOP and our membership.
“We did not always agree, but she always listened to what we had to say, and I like to think that we informed her decision-making process and improved outcomes at the Department on issues like officer wellness, suicide prevention, as well as improving the way we police our communities. Vanita treated the FOP as a partner, and we appreciated that immensely. I hope that the Administration will find someone who shares Vanita’s philosophy, dedication, and commitment to better the lives of our citizens and the police who protect them.
“I am sorry to see her go, but we wish our friend the very best in her future endeavors. I have no doubt she will be successful in whatever she chooses to do.”
