FOP Monthly Update: Officers Shot and Killed

The National Fraternal Order of Police reports that as of midnight on 4 September, there have been 272 officers shot in the line of duty so far in 2023 (+24% from 2021 YTD; +25% from 2020 YTD). Of those officers shot, 34 of them were killed by gunfire (-15% from 2021 YTD; -0% from 2020 YTD).

There have been 83 ambush-style attacks on law enforcement officers this year. These ambush-style attacks have resulted in 101 officers shot, 15 of whom were killed by gunfire.
