American Crisis: Recruiting the Next Wave of Police Officers with Keith Turney
9 August 2023
The FOP has always been committed to improving our profession, the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those we serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement and employee representation. In recent years, the law enforcement profession has been facing a real crisis in our ability to recruit and retain officers with the abilities, character and integrity to do a very difficult and increasingly dangerous job.
One major factor among veteran officers is the perception that elected officials and police executives no longer support, respect, or appreciate the officers serving in their communities. Prosecutors who have placed social justice ahead of public safety or refuse to keep dangerous criminals who have multiple, serious charges or charges of violence in jail before trial—or even refuse to prosecute certain criminals—have left officers feeling like their work is without value and that they are risking their lives needlessly.
On this episode of the Blue View, National FOP President Patrick Yoes sits down with National FOP Sergeant At Arms, Keith Turney to discuss the real challenges our profession is facing and how the FOP is leading the way in finding solutions.
Law enforcement officers have one of the toughest and most dangerous jobs in the United States. The brave men and women of law enforcement are charged with the enormous responsibility of keeping our streets and neighborhoods safe.
