Dear Senators Thune, Schumer, Wicker and Reed,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for the provisions included in S. Amdt. 6468, which have been included as part of the manager’s amendment to S. 4784, the “National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027.” This bipartisan amendment was offered by Senator John Cornyn III (R-TX) and includes 14 bills—all of which have passed the Senate in this Congress but have yet to move in the House—three of which are supported by the FOP.
The FOP supports the following provisions, and we urge the Senate to advocate for their inclusion into the final version of the NDAA:
• the Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act, which would direct the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to develop treatment programs for law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, and 911 personnel who suffer from PTSD or acute stress disorders;
• the Strengthening Child Exploitation Enforcement Act, which closes loopholes in Federal criminal law related to child abuse and exploitation;
• the Carla Walker Act, which would establish a pilot program to make cutting edge forensic genetic genealogy DNA analysis tools available to State and local investigative agencies.
