Dear Mr. Speaker and Representative Jeffries,
I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for S. 2, the “Secure America Act,” which the House is expected to consider this week. Finally, the months-long partisan gridlock will come to an end.
This critical legislation provides essential funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and related law enforcement priorities that are vital to the safety of our neighborhoods, communities, and our nation.
The “Secure America Act” used the process of budget reconciliation to bypass the hyper-partisan gridlock that paralyzed Congress for months. The legislation will provide DHS and its law enforcement components with substantial multi-year funding to strengthen our nation’s defenses against illegal immigration, transnational criminal organizations, terrorists, and other threats to our country by enhancing operational capabilities, supporting our personnel, and helping ensure that law enforcement has the resources and tools necessary to protect our communities.
The FOP has spent months demanding that Congress do its job and provide the funding these agencies need to do their jobs and enforce our laws. On behalf of the more than 382,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police, we urge the House to move swiftly to pass the “Secure America Act” and send it to the President for his signature. If you need any further information about our support for this legislation, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in our Washington, D.C. office.
Sincerely,
Patrick Yoes
National President
