Washington, DC - Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, welcomed news that President Donald J. Trump submitted an Alternative Plan for Pay Adjustments that would provide Federal law enforcement officers with a 3.8% pay raise, similar to the raise that went into effect in January of this year.
“Federal law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day, whether they are protecting Federal facilities, enforcing our nation’s immigration laws, or safeguarding our communities,” said Yoes. “Federal agencies face the same recruitment and retention challenges as State and local counterparts, and the President’s proposal sends a strong message that the service and sacrifice of Federal officers is valued.”
In the proposal to Congress, President Trump writes:
Separately, to increase recruitment and retention in critical law enforcement roles, at my direction the Office of Personnel Management shall use its statutory authority to increase 2027 compensation for law enforcement personnel by 3.8 percent. That change is part of a separate process from the establishment of this alternative pay plan under 5 U.S.C. 5303(b) and 5 U.S.C. 5304a.
“President Trump instituted a similar raise this year, but it did not apply to all Federal law enforcement officers, despite our efforts to properly define the officers who deserve this pay bump,” Yoes explained. “Unlike this year when the increase was limited to specified categories of front-line law enforcement personnel, the President has directed the Office of Personnel Management to take a ‘broader approach’ for 2027.”
The OPM will consult with Federal departments and agencies to determine who will be eligible for the pay increase. The FOP will work with the White House and OPM to ensure that all Federal officers get the raise. Unless overridden by Congress, OPM will release the new pay tables by “the end of the calendar year.”
“Every Federal officer deserves this raise,” Yoes said. “We will continue working to ensure that those who protect and serve the American people are compensated fairly.”
